I’ve been raptured, you’ve been left behind.
For the past 150 years or so millions of Christians
have gone to the grave disappointed. Millions of contemporary Christians are on
their way to the grave following their spiritual fathers in disappointment that
they were not raptured.
The rapture is the end time notion that society is a
living in the last days. The last days characterize the end of time when the
anti-Christ, or the man of lawlessness will enslave the whole earth, causing
the Christian church, to be physically removed to heaven while those left
behind will suffer the pains of totalitarism before Christ returns.
Millions of
Christian are anticipating the end of society, hoping they will be spared from
the ‘wrath to come’ standing around sky gazing, waiting for something to
happen…the end of the world. They hope to be ‘raptured’ which is the misguided
notion that when hard times come they will be lifted up into heavenly space thus
avoiding the wrath of the antichrist or man of lawlessness destined to enslave
the whole world.
The wrath to come mentioned by Jesus Christ in
Scripture was the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70. Jesus also mentioned
that that event would be the worst the world would ever experience. If Jesus
prophetic words are true, which they are, the worst that will ever happen on
earth is behind us, past tense, ancient history, and Christians were delivered
from the wrath to come by fleeing to the mountains from Jerusalem.
I believe the word, rapture, is a synonym, for the
born-again experience. John 3:3 “You must be born again.” Other words are used to describe the same
event, the personal salvation which happens to every Christian, indeed, the
event which makes them a Christian, the Spirit of Christ put inside them.
1Corinthians 6:14 And God both raised up the Lord
and will also raise us up by His power.
Romans 6:4 Therefore we were buried with Him through
baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory
of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Romans 8:11
But if the Spirit of Him who
raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through who His Spirit dwells in
you.
Ephesians 2:6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly
places in Christ Jesus,
