In the world not of the world
What was in Jesus Christ?
that God was in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:19) Father-God, eternal life:
holy, clean, without spot or blemish, perfection and purity.
Just as the Father was in the Son so the Son is in the
Christian (Philippians 1:19, 1 Corinthians 5:4) providing us with the same
nature, presence, purpose and power which was in Christ Jesus on the earth.
Thus born-again Christians are ‘in the world but not of the world’. Christians
are in the world as Christ’s body, His bride, the New Jerusalem on God’s holy
hill, living stones, the temple of God, invisible from heaven, visible on the
earth.
‘In the world’ means being physically present, but ‘of
the world’ means no longer being a flesh-Adam but a spiritual man, born-again
from above (John 3:3) in Christ.
(2 Corinthians 5:17)
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have
passed away; behold, all things have become new.
(1 John 4:17b) because as He is, so are we in this world.
(1 Peter 2:5) you
also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy
priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus
Christ.
(2 Peter 1:4) by which have been given to us exceedingly
great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through
lust.
